This genuine ancient Roman coin and .925 sterling silver handmade pendant features Gallienus, who was an emperor of the Roman Empire from 253-268 A.D. Gallienus ruled mainly during the “Crisis of the Third Century” that nearly led to the collapse of the entire empire. During his reign, he was unable to stop the secession of many important provinces of the empire. However, he did institute some military reforms that were helpful to subsequent emperors, such as forbidding senators from becoming commanders and increasing emphasis on field units of calvary that could be dispatched quickly to any area of the empire. This pendant shows the front of the coin with the portrait of Gallienus. The back of the pendant shows the back of the coin with the standing figure of Virtus, who was the Roman personification of valor.

This pendant measures approximately 1.55” long (including the bail) by approximately 1.05” wide. Please note that the dime is not included but is shown to help you gauge the size of the pendant. The pendant uses a large bail (loop for chain) which allows the pendant to fit easily on to most styles of chains or cords (not included) or to work as focal bead for your own unique beaded design. The inside of the bail is stamped with “925” so you can rest assured that the pendant is set in genuine .925 sterling silver jewelry.

Gallienus

Publius Licinius Valerianus Egnatius Gallienus

(253-268 A.D.) Ruled the Roman Empire as co-emperor with his father Valerian from 253 to 260, and then as the sole Roman Emperor from 260 to 268. He took control of the empire at a time when it was undergoing great crisis. His record in dealing with those crises is mixed, as he won a number of military victories but was unable to keep much of his realm from seceding.
